We were able to eat the continental breakfast, pack up, and
be on the road; with another adult in the car! It was super exciting to have
someone else manage the map, and the kids, and the pictures out the car window.
We drove north on 25 to 287 into Laramie. After stopping for lunch and another
Walmart stop, we hopped onto 287 again from 80 and drove straight through to
Dubois. As we neared the city, my cousin and I noticed the sky getting an odd
color and foggy. It took a number of miles and noses sticking out the window to
realize that it was a fire. Clearly a large one. It was right in front of us,
between us and Grand Teton, our first destination. On the way, we were tracking
all the points of interest as we drove by. In Dubois, we realized how smoky it
had gotten so instead of going through Dubois and camping in the Shoshone
National Forest, we backtracked a few miles and set up our tents at The Longhorn Ranch.
We got a campsite on the edge of the campground and we enjoyed pasta and wine for dinner. We had a nonverbal race where I set up our tent the fastest :) The smoke was intense all night!
